In Microsoft’s perfect world, every existing Windows XP user ditched the decade-old operating system before April 8, 2014, and purchased Windows 8 licenses.
Unfortunately, in the real world, nothing like that actually happened. Approximately 20% of the known universe was still using Windows XP on April 8, 2014 and millions are still using it today.
That means millions of innocent PC user are at serious risk of contracting viruses, malware, spyware, and other serious problems. Microsoft isn’t patching any more exploits for Windows XP and that’s why you need to switch as soon as possible.
A recent survey by Avast suggests that’s not going to happen: Avast’s survey revealed that 15% of Avast website visitors were planning to upgrade away from Windows XP. In other words, 85% of Windows XP users are not planning to upgrade – which is awesome news for every hacker and malware designer in the world.

Other survey results included:
-21% of those surveyed didn’t realize Windows XP was losing Microsoft’s support
-27% don’t plan to upgrade or buy a new PC
-23.6% of Avast’s user base (over 200 million people) were still running Windows XP in March 2014. In April 2014, 21.6% of those people have upgraded.
Buying a new PC is relatively cheap these days. Losing your identity or files is really expensive. Be smart and bite the bullet today. Whether you upgrade to a Mac, Linux machine, or new PC, it’s imperative that you upgrade today.
