The Far Cry series has always been popular, but Far Cry 3 was particularly well-received.
Loved by critics and gamers alike, Far Cry 3 attracted a mass following and people are excited for the next installment.
Today, Ubisoft announced that Far Cry 4 will be released for the PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 on November 18 in the United States and November 20 in most other developed countries.
That seems like a long ways away, so Ubisoft decided to whet our appetites with some inside knowledge. Far Cry 4 will take place in a remote region of the Himalayas called Kyrat, which doesn’t actually exist.
Kyrat is home to angry natives who are struggling to survive under a self-appointed dictator king who rules with an iron fist. He’s the guy you see on the cover art that was released along with this announcement.
The unique setting will likely be a refreshing change for an industry where change can be rare. Far Cry 3’s Blood Dragon expansion pack took gamers to an equally wild region totally different from the island habitat of the first three games, so it’s clear to see that Ubisoft enjoys switching things up.

We don’t know anything about the game thus far except from the Kyrat information and the Himalayas setting. However, we can theorize a few things from the cover:
-Your main antagonist will be the self-appointed dictator king picture on the cover in a pink tuxedo. He is seen sitting on a Buddhist throne covered in weapons like an RPG rocket launcher, AK-47 assault rifle, and a knife.
-Behind the seated dictator, we can see Mount Everest, which may or may not appear as a location in the game.
-We can also see several settlements along the hills, including Buddhist-style mountain monasteries commonly seen in the high mountain regions of Tibet and Bhutan.
-We can also see high suspension bridges crossing large chasms of the mountains, which should make for some interesting combat events and jaw dropping scenes.
-Ubisoft has announced that Kyrat will be a “vast” and “exotic” “open-world landscape”

We can’t wait to hear more about this game going forward.  My only worry is that the game will be dumbed down because it is being simultaneously developed for last-gen consoles like the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Let’s hope that’s not the case and that Far Cry 4 can use the latest tech to its full potential (it won’t, but we can hope).
Far Cry 4 is currently available for preorder.
