If you’re reading this article, then I assume you’re a competent PC user.
After all, you’ve managed to open a website, click on various links, and end up at this article. Good for you.
Most competent PC users know which operating system they’re currently running. However, there is a small minority of users who have no idea which operating system they’re currently running.
That’s why Microsoft revealed this site a few days ago:
http://amirunningxp.com/
True to its name, that site has one central purpose: tell you if you’re running Windows XP. If you’re running Windows XP, the site will explain why that’s a very bad idea after April 2014 and detail the upgrade options available.
Specifically, after April 8, 2014, Microsoft will cease support for Windows XP. Microsoft will release its final Windows XP update and, after that, thousands of hackers will descend upon Windows XP users like locusts upon crops or something like that. After that point in time, it’s an extremely bad idea to continue using Windows XP and you should absolutely upgrade to a superior operating system like Windows 7 or, if you’re feeling dangerous, Windows 8.
Anyways, most people reading this won’t need to visit the site listed above. But if you’re unsure which operating system you’re running, that site is a good place to start.
