What is Scarab [email protected] ransomware? And how does it implement its attack?

There seems to be no stopping to the increasing numbers of Scarab’s variants as a new one has been released yet again. This new strain is dubbed as Scarab [email protected] ransomware as it appends the extension [email protected] to the files it encrypts. So far there are no other notable changes in this variant as do the other latest ones apart from the extensions used and the ransom notes.
AS usual, once it infiltrates a computer system, this Scarab variant will drop its malicious payload that marks the start of its attack. It employs an information gathering module to gather data about the computer as well as its user. The information gathered will then be sent to a remote server controlled by the Scarab developers. In addition, an alteration in the Windows Registry is also performed. As a result, Scarab [email protected] ransomware can run every time victims turns on their computers. After all these changes are successfully implemented, it will search the computer for files with the following extensions:
The encryption begins once it finds the aforementioned targeted files. It then appends the [email protected] extension to every affected file. Following file encryption, it releases a text file named “HOW TO RECOVER ENCRYPTED FILES – [email protected]” that states:
