The internet has made the world a complicated place.
Fortunately, a lot of the parts of the internet also exist to make our lives simpler. Consider Where to Watch, for example. Where to Watch was made by the six member studios of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA). It’s a new website that aims to make it easier to find legal streaming sources for your TV shows and movies.
Currently, the website is in beta and it’s relatively small. However, the site is expected to grow over time as more movie studios get fully on board with the project.
Here’s how the site works:
-You go to WhereToWatch.com
-You type in your favorite movie or TV show you want to watch
-Click on your TV show from the list
-Where to Watch will list a number of places where you can legally stream, buy, or rent that movie or TV show. It also lists the price.
TV shows with multiple seasons can be searched from season to season, which is handy. A simple search for Game of Thrones, for example, revealed that the first three seasons were available on Netflix, while Season 4 was only available on Vudu, Xbox Video, and Target Ticket.

In total, dozens of streaming services are currently on board with the project. Where to Watch scans through a long list of popular streams, including Amazon, iTunes, Netflix, Hulu, Crackle, Flixster, Paramount Movies, Bravo Now, CNBC Full Episodes, E! Now, Esquire TV Now, Oxygen Now, Sprout Now, Syfy Now, ABC, ABC Family, Disney Movies Anywhere, Vudu, Xbox Video, Sundance Now, SnagFilms, Fandor, Wolfe on Demand, Target Ticket, Movies On Demand, Reelhouse, and IndieFlix.
Interestingly enough, Where to Watch also scans local brick-and-mortar stores and kiosks to see if it’s in stock anywhere. It will, however, need to access your location through your browser in order to give you that information.
Ultimately, if it’s legally available somewhere, you’ll probably be able to find it using Where to Watch.
Oh, and did I mention the service is totally free of advertisements?
One of the only downsides I’ve found with Where to Watch is that no app is available at this time, so you can only search from desktop computers and tablets. However, an app is on its way.
The other major downside is that the site is only currently available in the United States.
Legal streaming is becoming a more and more attractive option due to falling prices and better convenience. TV studios have realized that they can compete with the price of free – and Where to Watch is helping them do that.
