What is Magniber (.ndpyhss) ransomware? And how does it carry out its attack?

Magniber (.ndpyhss) ransomware is a new and modified version of the infamous Magniber ransomware. It uses the .ndpyhss extension in marking its encrypted files, hence the name. There’s only a slight difference between this new variant and its predecessor. The initial infiltration begins once this crypto-virus is copied on the temp folder which can be changed depending on its configuration. Once it manages to infect a system, it will carry out a sequence of attacks. It may also feature different modules that are activated in the system. One of these modules is used to gather information about the infected PC and send them to its remote C&C server. Some of these modules are also used to modify the Windows Registry to set Magniber (.ndpyhss) ransomware for automatic startup every time the PC boots.

After it finishes encrypting files with the listed extensions above, it will append the .ndpyhss extension on every encrypted file.
 
How does Magniber (.ndpyhss) ransomware spread online?
This new variant might spread using the Magnitude Exploit Kit just like the previous one. In addition, it could also spread using spam emails so you need to be cautious in opening attachments from suspicious-looking emails as they might contain the malicious payload of Magniber (.ndpyhss) ransomware.

Step 14: Delete the registry keys and sub-keys created by Magniber (.ndpyhss) ransomware.
