DayZ is one of the best mods ever made. As an ARMA II mod, DayZ was wildly successful. Despite its complicated installation and steep learning curve, thousands of gamers enjoyed fighting their way through the game’s zombie apocalypse nightmare world.
That’s why the developer wanted to make a standalone version of the game. The first alpha version of standalone DayZ was released just a few weeks ago. Despite being an early alpha build reserved for people who want to help develop the game and solve bugs, the standalone version has been wildly successful.
How successful? Just a few weeks after its release, standalone DayZ has sold over 730,000 copies on Steam. In the first 24 hours after its release, the standalone alpha version sold just under 200,000 units.
Standalone DayZ costs $29.99. Although the game is currently in its alpha stage, gamers will receive constant updates as the development progresses. The units sold so far will undoubtedly encourage the developer and prove that gamers really are willing to pay for a well-built mod.

If you want to try DayZ yourself, you can do so by downloading it from the Steam store today. Although the game is currently in its alpha stage, it’s still running and working – albeit with a considerable number of bugs and issues. Over the coming months, you can expect the game to be continuously updated to a point where – hopefully – it’s stable, smooth, and fun to play.
If DayZ can achieve that mark, it’s going to be one of the most feel-good gaming stories of the year. We wish the best of luck to the developer.
