Whether your computer has a virus, or it’s simply getting old, there are some easy, inexpensive ways to fix it. Here are some of the best upgrades you can implement today.
Buy more RAM
This is the most frequently suggested solution to your computer’s troubles, so I won’t go into much detail about it. Put simply, RAM is cheap, installation is easy, and the speed of your computer will significantly increase.
Check for faulty cards
Sometimes, RAM can be the problem, not the solution. If your computer keeps giving you an error message, like the infamous Blue Screen of Death, then you could be a victim of general hardware failure, which can occur on a number of your devices. If you have additional PCI-slot cards, like a sound card or a network interface card, then it’s a good idea to remove these one at a time to see if it fixes your computer problems.
Invest in an anti-spyware program
If your computer is already affected by a virus, then you may need to implement a more serious solution. The best – and easiest – solution is to buy a reliable all-in-one anti-virus package. In addition to protecting your computer against any future threats, these programs can significantly improve the speed of your computer. For example, many of them contain defragmentation programs, or registry cleaners. Since a crowded registry or hard drive can harm your computer, these programs are a wise investment.
If you want to save money, find an anti-virus program that allows for multiple installs. That way, you can split the cost with a few of your friends. Or, if you have multiple computers in your house, then you can install it on each PC, regardless of whether they need to be fixed or not.
Check your power
If your PC absolutely refuses to boot up, it may be due to a problem with your power source. Fortunately, these are easier to fix than many start-up errors. First, move your main power supply cord to a different socket. This will ensure that your house’s electrical plug is not the problem. If all your connections are secure, and the PC still isn’t turning on, then it may be time to look for a new power supply. Ideally, you should buy a power supply that overshoots your computer’s power requirements by a significant margin.
