What is Mogera ransomware? And how does it carry out its attack?

Mogera ransomware is yet another one of the new variants of Djvu or Stop ransomware. This new Djvu variant uses a “.morega” extension in marking the files it encrypt and uses three email addresses. Like the other latest variants of this ransomware group, Mogera ransomware barely has any changes except for the extension and email addresses it uses. Meaning to say, it still follows the same pattern when it carries out its attack.
Once it invades a targeted machine, Mogera ransomware will make modifications in the Registry and create new ones to achieve persistence on the infected computer. After that, it will look for the following file types and encrypt them using both AES and RSA ciphers. After the encryption is completed, each one of the encrypted files are marked with the “.mogera” extension. It also opens the text file named “_readme.txt” which contains the following message:
“ATTENTION!

Try to recover your encrypted files using the Shadow Volume copies
Restoring your encrypted files using Windows’ Previous Versions feature will only be effective if Mogera ransomware hasn’t deleted the shadow copies of your files. But still, this is one of the best and free methods there is, so it’s definitely worth a shot.
To restore the encrypted file, right-click on it and select Properties, a new window will pop-up, then proceed to Previous Versions. It will load the file’s previous version before it was modified. After it loads, select any of the previous versions displayed on the list like the one in the illustration below. And then click the Restore button.
