What is Scarab-Danger ransomware? And how does it carry out its attack?

Scarab-Danger ransomware is yet another variant of Scarab ransomware. This latest variant utilizes both the AES 256 and RSA 2048 encryption algorithms in encrypting files. And just like other variants of Scarab, there’s only a slight difference to this new version compared to its predecessor which is the extension it uses in marking the files it encrypts – this time it uses either [email protected] or [email protected]. After it establishes itself in the system, it will immediately begin to carry out its attack by looking for files with the following file formats:
.3dm, .3g2, .3gp, .7zip, .aaf, .accdb, .aep, .aepx, .aet, .ai, .aif, .as, .as3, .asf, .asp, .asx, .avi, .bmp, .c, .class, .cpp, .cs, .csv, .dat, .db, .dbf, .doc, .docb, .docm, .docx, .dot, .dotm, .dotx, .dwg, .dxf, .efx, .eps, .fla, .flv, .gif, .h, .idml, .iff, .indb, .indd, .indl, .indt, .inx, .jar, .java, .jpeg, .jpg, .js, .m3u, .m3u8, .m4u, .max, .mdb, .mid, .mkv, .mov, .mp3, .mp4, .mpa, .mpeg, .mpg, .msg, .pdb, .pdf, .php, .plb, .pmd, .png, .pot, .potm, .potx, .ppam, .ppj, .pps, .ppsm, .ppsx, .ppt, .pptm, .pptx, .prel, .prproj, .ps, .psd, .py, .ra, .rar, .raw, .rb, .rtf, .sdf, .sdf, .ses, .sldm, .sldx, .sql, .svg, .swf, .tif, .txt, .vcf, .vob, .wav, .wma, .wmv, .wpd, .wps, .xla, .xlam, .xll, .xlm, .xls, .xlsb, .xlsm, .xlsx, .xlt, .xltm, .xltx, .xlw, .xml, .xqx, .xqx, .zip
After the encryption is carried out, Scarab-Danger ransomware will apply the AEs 256 and RSA 2048 ciphers in locking the targeted files. Right after the encryption, it adds either [email protected] or [email protected] suffixes at the end of every files’ names. It then informs victims about the encryption by releasing a ransom note in a file named “HOW TO RECOVER ENCRYPTED [email protected]” and “HOW TO RECOVER ENCRYPTED FILES-” both of which have the same content that states:
“Danger: Our contacts change every 3 days, do not hesitate, contact us immediately. Then we will not be available.
Attention: if you do not have money then you do not need to write to us!
The file is encrypted with the RSA-2048 algorithm, only we can decrypt the file .

Try to recover your encrypted files using the Shadow Volume copies
Restoring your encrypted files using Windows’ Previous Versions feature will only be effective if Scarab-Danger ransomware hasn’t deleted the shadow copies of your files. But still, this is one of the best and free methods there is, so it’s definitely worth a shot.
To restore the encrypted file, right-click on it and select Properties, a new window will pop-up, then proceed to Previous Versions. It will load the file’s previous version before it was modified. After it loads, select any of the previous versions displayed on the list like the one in the illustration below. And then click the Restore button.
