Reducing the startup time of your PC isn’t that difficult. By implementing some of these easy tips, you may even be able to cut your startup time in half.
Eliminate unnecessary programs using msconfig: In a command prompt, type in msconfig, which will take you to a list of programs and applications that start up every time you boot your computer. Over the years, you may have accumulated lots of unnecessary applications, which could increase the startup time for your PC.
Go through the list and remove any entries that you do not use. If you’re unsure what a particular process is, search the internet to see what other people are saying about it. You don’t want to accidently cancel an important Windows process, for example.
Defragment your hard drive: By defragging your hard drive, you are bringing all of the important files closer together, which makes them easier to access. When your computer starts up, it needs to access a lot of these files in a short period of time. So, when you defrag, it reduces the drain on your hard drive. Defragging should be done fairly frequently to ensure optimal performance.
Run antivirus software: If your computer is taking a very long time to start up, it could be due to malware on your system. Invest in good antivirus software to ensure that this is not the case. If a scan does find a virus, then removing it should speed up the start-up times of your PC.
